Where to stay in Siem Reap – Best places and hotels

Siem Reap offers some of the best value of money hotels worldwide, many of which are new. Below are my recommendations for where to stay and the best area in Siem Reap after more than twenty trips.

For more travel advice, check out things to do in Siem Reap and places to visit, as well as Siem Reap itinerary suggestions.

Where to stay in Siem Reap?

  • Stay within walking distance of Pub Street and Old Market. Everything you need is there, whether eating places, coffee shops, shopping, or nightlife.
  • Don’t stay right on Pub Street as it’s noisy till early morning.
  • Your hotel location for visiting Angkor Archeological Park doesn’t matter, as all tours include pick up/drop off from/to your hotel. Check the Siem Reap itinerary for more information.
  • The hostels have similar rates to the cheap hotels. They are great if you are a young backpacker looking to meet new people, but the hotels offer more comfort for the same price.
  • In Siem Reap, you can find luxury accommodation for the price of a mid-range hotel in Europe or the USA.

West of Pub Street – best for cheap hotels and hostels

  • Cheap accommodations
  • Excellent cheap restaurants
  • Quiet at night

One of my favorite areas is west of Pub Street and Sivutha Blvd. It has many cheap and mid-range accommodations and excellent restaurants like Khmer Taste Restaurant. Nothing fancy, but It’s one of the oldest restaurants in Siem Reap with an extensive menu. The last time I ate there, the prices were similar to my first visit over twelve years ago. Inflation is almost non-existent.

Most of the area is quiet at night, but don’t stay right on Sivutha Blvd. The side streets away from the boulevard are great for a good night’s sleep. However, one of the best bars in the area, X-bar, is also located there.

South of Pub Street and Old Market – best for mid-range hotels and shopping

  • Excellent mid-range hotels and value for money area
  • Near the  most famous markets
  • Most famous live music venues are in the area

South of Old Market are located some of the best value for money hotels. Royal Crown Hotel is where I stayed the most; you can read my review below.

It is the best area to buy souvenirs or listen to live music in bars. Hard Rock Cafe Angkor and Laundry live music bar are located there.

North of Pub Street – best for luxury hotels

  • Fancy area
  • Luxury accommodations
  • Upscale restaurants

Some of the best 5-star hotels in Siem Reap are located north of Pub Street. Hotels like Park Hyatt Siem Reap, Raffles Grand Hotel, and FCC Angkor by Avani are in this part of the city.

It’s a fancy area if you want to treat yourself like royalty in a luxury place or try a great meal in a high-end restaurant. Embassy Khmer Gastronomy is one of these best restaurants.

Best Hotels in Siem Reap

Royal Crown Hotel and Spa – best mid-range hotel

Location: The hotel is right next to Hard Rock Cafe Angkor and within a ten-minute walk to Night Market and Pub Street.

Pros

  • Great location for nightlife and shopping
  • Spacious and nicely decorated rooms
  • Two swimming pools

Cons

  • The rooms are quiet, but the hotel is in a busy area with a lot of traffic.

Royal Crown Hotel and Spa is an excellent value for money option for a mid-range hotel in Siem Reap, and it’s one of my favorite accommodations. I stayed there a few times.

Everything you need is within a short walk away. The rooms are huge and nice, and the hotel has two great swimming pools. There is a green rooftop area with a nice view of the city.

Price: from $44. Check Royal Crown on Agoda

Golden Butterfly Villa – best cheap hotel

golden butterfly villa siem reap

Location: Golden Temple Villa is in a quiet location but close to many restaurants and not far from Pub Street. It’s a ten-minute walk to Old Market and Night Market.

Pros

  • Quiet at night and on weekends
  • Big, clean, and cheap rooms
  • Nice green area in front of the hotel

Cons

  • Rooms at the back are noisy on weekdays as there is a local school
  • No swimming pool

The hotel is on a small dead-end street, but there is a school at the back. Therefore, it’s great if you are an early-to-bed person and like to discover the area early in the morning, but it’s not suitable for night owls who like to sleep till late.

The rooms and bathrooms are huge and clean. There is no pool, but it’s a budget hotel.

Price: from $16. Check Golden Butterfly Villa on Agoda

Rithy Rine Angkor Residence – best cheap hotel with a swimming pool

Rithy Rine Angkor Residence Siem Reap

Location: Close to everything – eating places, shopping, nightlife

Pros

  • Unbeatable price for a hotel with a swimming pool
  • Great location for everything you need
  • Quiet rooms and big bathrooms

Cons

  • Bathrooms are nothing fancy
  • A lot of mosquitoes in the area

Rithy Rine Angkor Residence is an excellent hotel for the price. It’s a cheap hotel but more like a mid-range accommodation with big rooms and a clean swimming pool. The bathrooms are basic, but they are huge and clean. Bring a repellent as there are a lot of mosquitoes.

Tip: There are plenty of friendly tuk-tuk drivers in front of the hotel, but you can also arrange all kinds of day trips at the reception. I used them and can recommend both options.

Price: from $25. Check Rithy Rine Angkor Residence on Agoda.

Hotel Somadevi Angor Boutique and Resort – affordable 5-star hotel in a fancy area

Hotel Somadevi Angor Boutique Resort Siem Reap

Location: Great location for high-end restaurants and coffee shops but far from famous markets

Pros

  • Excellent value for money 5-star hotel
  • Located in a fancy area with many high-end restaurants nearby
  • One of the biggest swimming pools in Siem Reap

Cons

  • It is not very close to the Night Market and souvenir shops
  • Huge and clean rooms but not stylish design

Hotel Somadevi is for people who like to stay in affordable luxury accommodations far from typical busy Asian markets. The rooms are huge and clean but have boring designs by Khmer standards. The hotel has one of the biggest swimming pools I’ve seen in Siem Reap.

Tip: One of the best high-class restaurants, Embassy Khmer Gastronomy, is close to the hotel.

Price: from $38. Check Hotel Somadevi on Agoda
